Planning the cuts and the fall
Before we take a piece off a tree, we decide exactly where it will land. We look at the crown weight and the lean of the trunk, then check the wind and anything sitting under the drop, such as fences, sheds or vehicles.
On any cut where a large section or the whole tree is coming down, we clear an escape path away from the fall line first. The climber needs a way out that doesn't cross where the wood is headed.
Working in the branches
Many trimming jobs mean getting up into the tree. We climb on an arborist climbing line, which lets us move through the canopy and reach the exact spots that need thinning.
The climber works in a safety harness and saddle, which keeps both hands free for the saw and rigging. With that setup we can take heavy wood off in pieces instead of dropping it all at once on whatever is below.

Controlling the work area
We mark and control the drop zone before any branches come down. Bystanders and nonessential workers stay clear of it for the whole job, including the people who live there.
The climber and the crew on the ground coordinate throughout, so the ground crew knows when a piece is about to come down and the climber knows the zone is clear before the cut is made.
Pricing the job
Tree trimming and pruning runs from $75 to $1,500 per tree. A few light cuts on a small tree sit at the bottom of that range. Hours in the harness working through a large, heavy crown push toward the top.
Rockledge's heat and long growing season mean trees here put on crown weight quickly, so a canopy left alone for a few seasons can take noticeably more time to thin. We'll give you a number once we've seen the tree.

The Job, Done Right
Our crew does the work, checks it, and leaves the site clean. You see everything we did.
Some of what that looks like in the field:
- Train chainsaw operators in notching, hinge wood, and back-cut techniques; maintain firm footing and a two-handed grip while cutting.
- Use chipper guards and emergency stops, stay clear of the in-feed chute, and never push material into the machine with hands or feet.

Common Questions
Tree removal typically ranges from $200 to $5,000. Price depends on tree height, diameter, location, lean, nearby structures or power lines, and whether stump grinding or hauling is included. Larger or more complex jobs near homes or utilities require more crew, rigging, and equipment, which raises the cost.
A 40-foot tree usually falls in the middle of the $200–$5,000 removal range. Factors that increase price include trunk diameter, branch spread, proximity to buildings or wires, and whether the crew must climb or use a crane. Stump removal adds $90–$1,200 extra.
Most tree removal is paid work costing $200–$5,000. Free service for seniors is uncommon and usually limited to local nonprofit programs, utility assistance, or municipal grants when a tree poses a documented safety hazard. Homeowners should check city or county resources directly.
